Dry Shampoo – Myths & Facts

What does dry shampoo actually do?

Dry shampoo absorbs excess oil at the roots. This makes the hair look fresher and gives it more volume.

Does dry shampoo damage hair?

No – when used correctly, dry shampoo does not damage the hair. It is not a treatment in the true sense, but a temporary solution to absorb oil at the roots. It only becomes problematic with aggressive ingredients (e.g., a lot of alcohol) or if it is used permanently instead of washing.

Does dry shampoo clog pores?

Basically no. The particles rest on the scalp and hair without actively penetrating the pores. Important: apply specifically at the roots, use sparingly, and still wash regularly.

Is baby powder a good alternative to dry shampoo?

Not recommended. Many baby powders are based on talcum, which absorbs well but can strip too much oil from hair and scalp. A specially developed dry shampoo is more finely tuned to hair and scalp.

Our dry shampoo in a brush

What is REBeLS ON TOP dry shampoo in a brush?

An alternative to traditional spray: Instead of aerosol, a fine powder is applied directly to the hair roots using the powder brush. The short, compact bristles distribute the powder precisely – for fresh roots and volume, completely without residue.

What distinguishes it from spray dry shampoo?

100% natural, free from bullshit ingredients, targeted application instead of spray mist, no residue or itchy scalp, ideal for sensitive scalp, perfect for on the go instead of hidden in the bathroom.

How many applications does one filling last for?

At least 50 applications per refill. The short bristles distribute the powder precisely in the hair instead of the surroundings – making it significantly more efficient than spray.

What ingredients are included?

Organic rye flour, organic cornstarch, lava clay, organic arrowroot starch, organic cocoa powder (only in the dark variant), and organic lavender oil. Nothing else.

When should I not use REBeLS ON TOP dry shampoo in the brush?

In case of known hypersensitivity to flour dust, we advise against using this product. Since our powder contains rye flour, people with celiac disease or severe gluten intolerance should also avoid it as a precaution, as fine particles cannot be completely ruled out during application. Additionally, our powder contains lavender oil – if you have a known fragrance allergy, we recommend performing a compatibility test beforehand.

Application & Feel

Why does my scalp sometimes itch from dry shampoo?

It is usually due to alcohol, fragrances, or residues in traditional spray products – not the dry shampoo itself. Our powder deliberately avoids these irritants.

Why do I sometimes see white residue in my hair?

The spray is difficult to dose and leaves a grayish tint, especially on dark hair. Our fine powder can be applied more precisely, and the dark version naturally adapts to the hair color thanks to cocoa powder.

Are oily hair actually a bad thing?

No – quite the opposite. The scalp produces sebum to protect hair and skin. Oily roots are a visual issue, not a health concern. This is exactly where our dry shampoo helps: refreshing the roots without disturbing the natural rhythm of the scalp.

Washing hair – general

How often should I wash my hair?

2-3 times a week is usually enough. Dry shampoo can help extend the intervals in between.

Is washing your hair daily bad for your scalp?

Not fundamentally bad, but it can disrupt the natural balance: if the protective film of the scalp is removed daily, the body often reacts with increased sebum production – a kind of "never-ending story" of washing, drying out, and faster oil buildup.

Which ingredients should I generally avoid in dry shampoo?

Alcohol (dries out), butane/propane (aerosols, irritate the respiratory tract), and synthetic fragrances (common causes of irritation and allergies).
